You can add a protein to a functional class directly in the public space using an account with ‘Editor’ role and via the webclient (This functionality is not available using the PC client interface). Below are the steps to follow:

- Open the ‘Explorer’ webpage and look for your functional class of interest in the index section (Index > Entities > Functional Classes, Figure 1)

Note: A link to the Explorer view is located in the top-right corner of ‘Home’ webpage.

-  Select the functional class to be edited and click on the button ‘Edit’ of the Explorer Toolbar (Figure 1).

- Click on the button ‘Edit the Public Object’ located in the new pop-up window (Figure 1).

- Select the protein that you want to remove and click on the button ‘New Entity’ (Figure 2).

- In the new pop-up window, select the appropriate settings to look for your protein in the ResNet database (Figure 3). First, choose the entity type ‘Protein’ in first the drop-down menu. Select an appropriate property ID in the second drop-down menu (for example, choose Name) and type a string of characters that you want to look for in the text box following the equal sign “=”. Click on the button ‘Look Up Matches’.

- A list of entities that match your criterion will be displayed (Figure 4). Select your entity of interest in the list and click on the button ‘Use Selected’. The added protein is highlighted in green in the explorer view.

Note: You can create a new entity if you cannot find your protein of interest in the ResNet Database by clicking on the button ‘Create New’. Be aware that a new entity will be created in your database (and not only in the functional class). This change will affect all the users of the ResNet database.

- Click on the button ‘Save’ (Figure 5). The protein is definitely added to the functional class (Figure 6).
