What are the user roles in Pathway Studio Enterprise?

Table 1. Applications and roles in PSE

In a Pathway Studio Enterprise database, user accounts can be set up with one or more user roles. User roles are not cumulative and must be granted separately. For example, the permission to browse the database included into the role “user” is not included into the role “editor”. In most cases, the role “user” should be granted in addition to other roles.

User
• May browse and search the entire database;
• Has full control over their private workspace, i.e. may create, edit or delete entities and relations stored in USERNAME Projects folder;
• May submits private data for publishing in the public workspace;

Power user (useful only when using webclient)
• Has access to MedScan text-mining tools;
• May import into the database relations found by MedScan text-mining as either public (shared workspace) or private (personal workspace) objects;

Note: ‘Power User’ role is useful only when using MedScan through the webclient interface; Role ‘User’ is sufficient to use MedScan Reader PC client interface and import into the database relations found by MedScan as private workspace objects (Pathway Studio PC client interface do not allow to modify or add public objects).

Administrator (tools are available only in webclient)
• Manages user accounts and roles;
• Manages user sessions and server tools;
• Manages database object properties and annotations;
• New administrator accounts cannot be created; the Administrator role can be associated only with
the built-in ‘admin’ account.

Editor (tools are available only in webclient)
• May edit, create or delete public objects, e.g. pathways, entities, relations, etc.

Manager (tools are available only in webclient)
• Reviews pathways submitted by user for publishing in the shared workspace;
• Approves or rejects users' submissions.

Graph viewer
• May not browse or search the database;
• View-only access to pathways, through URLs sent by regular users;

Note: User accounts can be set up with one or more user roles. User roles are not cumulative and must be granted separately. For example, the permission to browse the database included into the role “user” is not included into the role “editor”. In most cases, the role “user” should be granted in addition to other roles.

Main applications of Pathway Studio and MedScan Reader and associated required roles are reported in Table 1.
